Rocky Like’s Testimony Inspires Others

By Lorna Kometani

If you haven’t met Rocky Like or heard his testimony, make it a point to do so. I have not had the opportunity to talk to Rocky first hand (yet), but I did hear his testimony straight from his heart during a service entitled Peacemakers; a segment of NHW’s series, 40 Days of Blessings.

A ‘self-made man’ as he described himself, there was something poignant about this man’s testimony. Perhaps it was hearing the part of a grown man admitting he is weak and in need of help. Or, maybe it was hearing of his struggle to gain it all; and then have it all fall apart. It was probably hearing about how he offered forgiveness, when deep down inside he felt others should be asking for his forgiveness. It was definitely hearing about his son, Rocky Jr., asking if he would perform a marriage ceremony for him; to which he replied, “I’m not certified for that”. Whatever the message you receive from listening to Rocky’s story, one thing was clear. This man found peace and had changed his life to reflect the perfect and ultimate example of a peacemaker ~ Jesus Christ.

Sitting in my seat at church that day, I could totally relate to Rocky’s testimony. At one point in my life, I considered myself a self-made person and had more than enough pride to convey this newfound lifestyle I created. No longer did I want to succumb to the instructions of my spouse, nor did I want to humble myself. So inevitably, as was the case with Rocky, God took over and did the humbling for me.

As I listened to Rocky’s testimony, my friend immediately came to mind. Also a self-made man who is loyal, hard-working and searching for something (God), but not willing to give it over just yet, I decided to buy the CD recording of the message and gave it to my friend.

I trust that at the right time he will listen to the CD and complete the worksheet. While there might not be an immediate transformation in his life as a result of hearing this message of Peacemakers, I am sure that it will touch his heart knowing that it is from a friend with good intentions.

As for me, this action brings a sense of peace into my life. I’ve planted a small seed for someone else to water and for God to nurture.

“For he himself is our peace…His purpose was to create in himself one new man out of the two [Jew and Gentile], thus making peace, and in this one body to reconcile both of them to God through the cross…” (Eph 2:14-16)
